So, here’s the skinny…

On July 19, 2018, I made a huge life change and resigned from 13 years in public education to pursue new adventures and life-long dreams. This particular adventure initially began as a response to the frustrations I felt as a bride. I wanted an invitation that felt like us, but I couldn’t find anything that was “just right” (call me Goldilocks). We liked certain aspects of one invitation, but not others, and we didn’t have the budget to spend $1,000 or more on a wedding suite. And who wants to settle for “I guess that’s ok” for their wedding?!?! That’s when I decided to try my hand at designing our invitations. I found a talent I didn’t know I had and a new creative outlet.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love creating custom stationery. But my love for branding and logo design began to grow exponentially about six months into me starting my business. I discovered both passion and satisfaction in helping entrepreneurs and smaller start-ups find their unique voice and intention. Being able to create designs that are original, communicative, and emotionally connected is an insane gift. One that I hope to always be able to give.

Ultimately, Quixotic Chimera was borne out of a desire to create customized designs that evoke an emotional reaction without invoking a high price tag. I seek to eradicate the negative prefix; making the impossible possible and the unrealistic real. I'd love to create something unique and personal for you. And yes, I'll gladly answer the question of how on earth someone comes up with the name Quixotic Chimera.

I’m a wordsmith at heart, and the thesaurus is one of my best friends. In my search for a name for my business, I began writing down words and adjectives that described me and what I wanted to create. Enter: thesaurus. The first synonym that caught my eye was “chimerical.” I’m a huge nerd, especially when it comes to mythology. The Chimera was a creature made up of several different types of animals...which is exactly what I want for myself. In addition to graphic design, I make candles, sugar scrubs, bath salts, chapstick, etc. I’m also working toward a 33 year dream in the making of opening my own animal sanctuary. So I guess the “different types of animals” takes on a whole new meaning at that point. The definition of a chimera is “something that exists only in the imagination; not possible in reality.” I’m a sucker for challenges. I genuinely believe my DNA was coded to revolt against “supposed (or not supposed) to,” “logical,” and the “status quo.” Not too long after stumbling across “chimera,” I found “quixotic.” Definition: “exceedingly idealistic; unrealistic and impractical, especially in the pursuit of ideals.” Yeah, that’s me. 100%. But remember, I like challenges and I’m all about eradicating the negative prefix. If you want me to do something, tell me it can’t be done. So the name Quixotic Chimera not only serves as a descriptor, but as a constant call to my why: eradicating the negative prefix.
